Educate Yourself. Make Wise Decisions. |
|
|

|

A large problem that we see on a daily basis as web advisors and designers is a severe lack of understanding on the part of business owners on how the internet, web technology and other electronic media can work for them.
They are inundated everyday with solicitations on why they should Twitter, how they are missing out on the greatest email marketing process ever invented or why their website is so sub-par that they are better off not having one. It becomes overwhelming to the point of stopping good decisions because of the fear of making bad ones.
Our goal is simply this. We want a place that you can visit to better understand and fully embrace the "Time Of Technology"; so that when you go to make a decision on anything web related for your business, it is an informed one.
With that in mind, we will do our level best to cover anything that can help your business survive in the 21st century. And we are open to suggestions and questions on anything you may have read or want to know about. We would love to here from you and you can accomplish that by clicking here.
Thank You,
Dave Zimel

There are many ways to drive traffic to your website and not all of them are web based. Here are some tips to get your domain name (i.e.www.extantsb.com) out there without using an electric outlet.
Use Your Vehicle - These days you see more and more cars advertising their websites. The most prevalent spot is across the rear windshield and uses a clear vinyl banner. Since it seem that no matter where you drive there is always someone behind you,why not give them something to read?
And if you have a work vehicle, say a plumbers van for instance, make sure your web address is displayed on the front, back and sides. Many vehicles of this nature have the telephone number really large and the web address a lot smaller. It should be as large as, if not larger, than your phone number. Most people forget a phone number within seconds of reading it, but a www.yourbusiness.com stays in their minds.

1. Know the basics Even for web professionals, keeping up with technology is difficult. Fortunately, as a small-business owner, you don't need to know the ins and outs of the latest trends to commission a website, but it does help to understand a few fundamentals. But don't be afraid to ask about things you are unsure of.
2. Be prepared to collaborate Once you're ready to approach a designer, your input is key. Many people don't realize how much direction they'll need to provide in order to give their designer a successful starting point.
The fantasy people have a lot of times is that they're just simply going to be able to call a web designer and say "Make me a website and show it to me in two weeks when it's all done"
The reality is that the process is a collaboration--from start to finish. In the beginning, designers typically ask for detailed descriptions of what prospective clients needs from their websites, as well as for links to other sites that the clients admire. Give your designer as much info about you and your business as possible. It is better for them to have to much information than too little.

Web content is the reason that people come to your Web pages. But many Web designers and Web developers forget this in their rush to create the prettiest page or the most interesting architecture or the best interaction. When it comes right down to it, customers are not interested in whether your design has a 3-pixel or a 5-pixel bevel. And they just want the interactivity to work and not get in the way.
What your customers are coming to your Web page for is the content. And if your designs, architectures, and interactivity don't provide that content they will leave. At the end of the day content is still king, and designers who forget that won't remain in business long.
What is Web Content?
There are, essentially, two types of Web content:

Graphics can make or break your website. Thus, choosing the right graphics for your site is critical and should neither be understated or overstated. The typical net browser only spend a few seconds browsing a page before going to look for a better one. Your graphics is like your website's cover and they do judge the book by its cover, thus the website by its graphics. Your graphics must be designed to impress and keep your viewer from going on to the next page. Or else, your site will be lumped in the ordinary website category.
